Over the last eight years I have been involved with two gardening companies, one based in England the other in Italy, creating gardens all over Europe. Five years ago I was fortunate enough to be able to buy a small piece of land high up in the Spanish mountains. I placed all my energy into the garden, clearing bit by bit, until it became possible to begin setting the main structure of the garden.

Living in a tent in the mountains in winter is hard. Many nights it is impossible to sleep as the wind batters the tent hour after hour. A constant supply of dry wood is needed to fend off the cold and the drive to and from the village can sometimes be quite perilous.

Living without water in the Spanish summer is just as hard and for the first few years every drop had to be collected from the village. Finally I managed to get connected to mains water and life has changed beyond beleif. I am finally planting, slowly creating my own garden, with the knowledge that everything I plant will not just wither and die.

Only two walls remain of what was once the house and for the moment I am leaving it as is. One day I hope to build a house,but until then life in a tent will suit me fine, just so long as I have water!
